Zugvögel (2019)

Zugvögel(2019), is an Art in Architecture project realized in cooperation with the town of Ober-Olm and the fine art school Kunsthochschule in Mainz, Germany. The metal train-rails with the wooden bird-houses, relate visually to the surrounding buildings and their functions for the Ober-Olm community. These comprise the elementary school, the community center, the town hall, the local church and the cemetery and manifest significant locations in the lives of the people of Ober-Olm. The birdhouses, which are up to 1.5 meters tall, are based on the architectural features of the above mentioned buildings and serve as a shelter for birds and other small wild animals. The title of the piece (in German, a play on the double meaning: ‘migrant birds’ & ‘Train birds’) refers to the voluntary commitment of the Ober-Olmer residents to be an open and inclusive community.

Die Arbeit Zugvögel ist ein in Zusammenarbeit mit der Gemeinde Ober-Olm und der Kunsthochschule Mainz realisiertes Kunst am Bau Projekt. Das Schienenoval thematisiert die den Realisierungsort umkreisenden Gebäude und ihre Funktionen für die Ober-Olmer Ortsgemeinschaft. Von der Grundschule über das Gemeindezentrum, das Rathaus, die Ortskirche bis hin zum Friedhof sind prägnante Ereignisorte im Lebenszyklus der Ober-Olmer*innen versammelt. Die bis zu 1,5 Meter großen Vogelhäuser sind an die architektonischen Eigenheiten dieser Gebäude angelehnt und dienen als Schutzraum für Vögel und andere Wildtiere. Der Titel der Arbeit bezieht sich auf das große ehrenamtliche Engagement der Ober-Olmer*innen, eine offene und inklusive Gemeinschaft zu sein.
